Mythos

Bingeneering is a term coined by @Austin Renfroe to describe the act of channeling emotional energy from a difficult breakup into focused engineering projects, rather than traditional coping mechanisms like drinking. Renfroe humorously described this process as going on a “bender” of engineering, hence the portmanteau “bingeneering.” The concept found real-world expression in one of his projects: a hot tub specifically designed with physical "choke points" that encourage people to interact more closely, often leading to increased opportunities for cuddling. This creative and somewhat playful approach exemplifies how personal experiences and emotions can be redirected into innovative engineering solutions, reflecting a blend of humor and intentional social design. Austin joked that, after a bad breakup, he'd go on a bender, but... with engineering instead of booze. He called it "bingeneering" and it's in resulted in (among other things) a hot tub designed to force people into "choke points" which catalyze cuddling. I found the idea of bingeneering both amusing and insightful. It reminds me that engineering can serve as both an outlet and a @catalyst for connection.
