Mythos

Zappos is an American online retailer specializing in footwear, clothing, and accessories. Founded in 1999 by Nick Swinmurn and later led by Tony Hsieh, it gained recognition for its customer-centric culture and innovative approach to e-commerce. The company was an early adopter of free shipping and returns, as well as a 365-day return policy, which contributed to strong customer loyalty. In 2009, it was acquired by Amazon in an all-stock deal valued at approximately $1.2 billion. Zappos continued to operate independently under its own brand and culture, including the use of holacracy, a decentralized management system, until formally transitioning leadership strategies in subsequent years. The company is often cited in business literature and customer service case studies for its unconventional practices and focus on company culture.
