📝Reddit // Immersion Exercise // Commenting // Part 4

Comments which are made within the first 25 minutes of a submission's lifecycle are more likely to become the "top" comment. The winning comment within this period, ranked by the same algorithm as submissions, will be the one best fitting to community's standards. [3]

Satire and fluff communities like /r/mildlyinteresting and /r/aww will value comedic response; scientific communities like /r/askscience and /r/worldnews will value supportive facts.

Reddit allows for comments to be made on a comment, creating a child comment. Comments can then be made on child comments to make a child of the child comment, and so on. Each comment in the string is ranked by the algorithm to link the most popular responses into what is effectively the best, often most humorous, version of the conversation.

Comments provide an understanding of how subreddit communities respond to various types of content and, when engaged early in the submission's lifecycle, used to drive engagement.
