GengHER Khan the She Horse is the female seahorse version of Genghis Khan, the famously fertile Mongolian ruler. They are both known as "the great proliferators" of their respective species for diametrically opposite reasons.
Where Genghis' genetic signature was carried on through campaigns of rape and pillaging, Gengher's legacy was built upon the concept of informed consent.
Gengher's species experienced a significant bottleneck event wherein the species genetic diversity was greatly decreased. This led to genetic maladaptation and ultimately endangerment from fluctuations in ocean temperatures due to climate change. Afflicted by an energetic wasting disease, Gengher's species was unable to evolve their mitochondria to keep up with the increased cellular demands driven by the warmer environment. Gengher, however, was able to adapt due to mutations in her mitochondrial genome (mtDNA) passed on from her maternal lineage. Recognizing an opportunity to change the trajectory of her species, she donated her eggs (and subsequent mitochondria) to thousands of seahorse couples that consented to have their progeny carry on Gengher's mtDNA in the next generation.
