Mythos

This message, an example of @Gifted Perspective, was sent to @Austin Renfroe—a friend newly minted at @Burning Man—after he supported me through a September 2016 trip to Vegas that involved undisclosed trauma. Feeling grateful to have (emotionally) survived, I wanted him to feel an accurate representation of my appreciation. Lacking excess funds to invest, I offered these words:

Thank you for the unnecessary, but immensely appreciated gesture of buying me brunch (twice). Still flustered from last night... your face, tone, and words immediately helped me find my calm. You bringing the 5HTP, talking my bag, etc. really hit me. I'd already seen it in you, but wanted to take the time to tell you... you are a magnificent human being. Intellect and ambition are meaningless without heart. Someone once told me "money only amplifies your personality". I see who you are and want to magnify your voice in the world. If you see any opportunities for us to help you (before we do), don't hesitate to call. Truly happy to see you with [your girlfriend] too, gives a little glimmer of hope for the rest of us career focused romantics.

Austin responded, "Are you kidding me man? ... Fuck. Would text back more but I'm crying. Give me a sec." and followed with a barrage of texts reflecting his friendship and love. The time invested in my message—a vibrant illustration constructed for an impact equivalent to the one his actions had made on me—strengthened our relationship and set the trajectory of our loving friendship.
