Mythos

A 📝memo gifted to us by 📝Juan Carlos Perez:

Overall the deck shows that you are passionate about your mission and that you have placed immense effort to convey that passion to your target audience.

I like the branding in particular. The way you’ve distributed the 4 core concepts into their own identities while maintaining the relationship they have with one another is pretty nice.

As we discussed a few days ago, one of the things that came to my mind often is that I couldn’t imagine this as a working product, but more so like a “concept”. I couldn’t pinpoint what exactly was causing that to happen, but this morning I reached a hypothesis…. Even though the deck is extensive in discussing the nuances of the ecosystem, I didn’t get a sense of how it all came together in the real world and in simple terms.

What I mean by that is that there is an opportunity to summarize the opportunity to its most basic business model and add measurable evidence of your growth story.

So the way I personally imagine this in my head is (I might be completely wrong about these btw):

  • Customer segments
    • Demand: Early-stage startups
    • Supply: Marketers, designers, engineers, creators, etc
  • Problems
    • It’s hard/expensive to build a startup on your own.
    • Incubators are difficult to get into and offer a limited set of resources.
    • It’s hard to fundraise and comes with a lot of equity given away at the early stage.
    • Building a startup can get lonely.
    • Founders have knowledge gaps that hold them back from succeeding.
  • Solution
    • **A community-based, open-sourced startup incubation platform **
    • Startups partner with functional experts (marketers, designers, etc.) to essentially barter services & value between each other
    • Experts and startups transact inside of a multi-sided marketplace
    • An open-sourced knowledge hub is made available to everyone to help full in the knowledge gaps
    • A digital currency is used as an analog & replacement to the traditional convertible note, stock issuance, or monetary exchange
    • All transactions are recorded and made transparent to the community
    • The community aspect helps maintain trust and propels growth
  • Growth story
    • You need to grow your supply side (functional experts) so that you can service the demand (startups). As services are rendered and value is exchanged, there is momentum to continue to use the platform and bring in more people in the mix. Virality factors kick in as long as satisfaction is high and you keep checks on supply and demand.
  • Success metrics
    • Ultimately what matters most is that startups get up and running quickly and they reach their own company growth metrics
    • The internal KPI for success for One Inc. is likely a mix of marketplace fluidity, $ value of value created and exchanged, and the number of successful projects/products that reach any meaningful success
    • Brian's Note: after sharing metrics, JC said " The traction info has some room for improvement IMHO. I’d maybe chose a single KPI for each of the four areas of the biz, and then highlight your metric for them. "
  • Revenue model
    • This is a blind spot for me. The deck has no mention of what the unit economics are.
  • Current growth metrics
    • Again another blind spot. I don’t know how many people are in the community, what their breakdown is, how active are they, how much value have they created?
    • You need to be delivering value at an ever-increasing rate month over month, so I’d like to see a breakdown of whatever your top business KPI is… how fast is it growing. Launching a product alone isn’t special. Seeing a product thrive as you iterate on it, and where you can observe measurable growth is very special :)

So overall, I’d take a look at how to summarize the business model in one slide, as well as tell the audience your current growth trajectory. And another tip would be to have an alternative version of this deck that is somewhere in the magnitude of 10 slides max.

That’s about it! Overall amazing work in bringing together a solid solution for a pressing problem in the world.

Best of luck!!!
