Mythos

Black hat describes the activities or individuals who deliberately violate, exploit, or manipulate a system or network without the awareness or consent of its owner, often with the intent of personal profit, sabotage, or causing harm. The term is closely associated with #hacking, where it signifies a distinction between malicious actors and those who engage with systems ethically. Within hacker culture, the black hat stands in sharp contrast to the @White Hat hacker, who identifies vulnerabilities to strengthen systems rather than compromise them. This language draws from the symbolism of classic American Westerns, where black hats and white hats visually marked villains and heroes. Over time, “black hat” has expanded beyond cybersecurity into fields like marketing and search engine optimization, referring to tactics that bend or break established rules for unfair advantage.
